February Cruisin’ on Dearborn Street

Cruisin’ on Dearborn Street is a monthly event held on the first Saturday of the month.  Being mid season for our “snowbird” friends from up north, it was not surprising to see plenty of out of state cars on display.  The event seems to be getting bigger and bigger each time I attend and while we there a number of cars left and were immediately replaced by others looking to show off their pride and joy.

For a look at other cars that were on display, arriving or departing I have set aside a page in the website englewoodfl.us.  This link will take you to the home page.   Once there, you will be guided to the cruisin’ page  or you could use this link to take you there directly.

 Lemon Bay Fest.

The Lemon Bay Fest was held on Friday, February 4th to Saturday February 11. The week long event is a celebration of the history of Englewood and in that vein there were walking tours of the historic section with guides provided by the Southwest Historical Organization of Resources and Education (SHORE).  Talks and information on a variety of subjects, such as shell collecting and displays, Identifying common birds in SW Florida, films on Patrick Smiths Florida – A Sense of Place – and “Cracker” – The Last Cowboys of Florida, Cooking Demonstrations, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico and many other topics. The final day of the Fest was the Cracker Fair, held at Pioneer Park and featured entertainment on the stage, a Lemon Dessert contest, food vendors, games for the kids, artists and more.

Restaurants in Englewood.

We have a couple of new openings in the area, one being Robs Pizzeria and the other is the Lighthouse Grill at Stump Pass.

Rob’s Pizzeria is located in Merchants Crossing and offers Dine In, Delivery or Takeout service.  Although Rob is well known for his hand spun pizza platters they also also serve Italian Dinners, Subs, Salads, Calzone’s and Stromboli’s.
The Lighthouse Grill at Stump Pass is located in the Marina at 260 Maryland Ave. The new owners have done a wonderful job of renovating the Stump Pass Grill, as it was formerly called, and now has a much larger seating capacity. An on site smoke house prepares smoked salmon, smoked baby back ribs, pork and chicken. An excellent selection of fish is also on the menu,
